Pemberton Fest deets

SO MANY FESTIVALS, SO LITTLE TIME: The Pemberton Music Festival, British Columbia’s entry in the busy 2014 summer-fest circuit, has just broken out its talent lineup. Among the big names confirmed for the three-day weekend of 7/18-20 on 300 picturesque acres near the Whistler ski resort are Nine Inch Nails, OutKast, Deadmau5, Soundgarden, Frank Ocean, Kendrick Lamar, Metric, Snoop Dogg, Empire of the Sun, Ms. Lauryn Hill (as she now refers to herself), TV on the Radio, Blondie, Cage the Elephant, Grimes, The Flaming Lips, Young the Giant, Schoolboy Q, St. Vincent, Tyler, The Creator, the reunited Violent Femmes, Earl Sweatshirt, The New Pornographers, Best Coast, Flying Lotus and ZZ Ward. Tickets for Pemberton, presented by Huka Entertainment, start at $279; deets at www.pembertonmusicfestival.com. It’s real purty up there and worth the schlep—which puts us in mind of the immortal words uttered by Harry Dean Stanton in The Missouri Breaks: “Why’d they have to put Canada way up here?” (4/9a)
