Sam Smith at Belasco Night 2

SAM SUNG AGAIN: Capitol's British crooner Sam Smith earned raves for his first night at L.A.'s Belasco, as we told you yesterday; night two was equally impressive. The cello reverberated beautifully in the space on “Even for Me” and the Disclosure hit “Latch,” and when the drums kicked in on songs like “I’m Not the Only One,” it shook you to your bones. Smith's powerhouse vocals were in full effect on songs like “Not in That Way,” a tormented lullaby powered by his formidable vibrato. Things reached a fever pitch with the night’s closer, the single “Stay with Me.” During the encore, Smith presented surprise guest Guy Lawrence from Disclosure for “Make It to Me,” performed live for their second time ever. Other favorites included the show-stopping "Money on My Mind," the Naughty Boy smash "La La La" and a cover of Arctic Monkeys' "Do I Wanna Know." The packed 2,500-capacity venue was hanging on every note. Among those spotted in the crowd: Capitol's Steve Barnett, Michelle Jubelirer, Ethiopia Habtemariam, Dennis Reese, Patty Morris and Alex Coronfly; radio peeps Mando Fresko (MTV2 / KPWR), Jayn (KLLC), Hitman Haze + Frankie V. (KHTS), John Peake (KMYI), Jason Bowers (Westwood One) and Alexa Smith (KTWV); and artists Ne-Yo, Glee's Dianna Argon and Jojo. (4/17p)
