Morrissey sneak attack

STOP US IF YOU THINK YOU'VE HEARD THIS ONE: A new song from PoMo idol Morrissey (Harvest/CMG) appeared without warning on iTunes last night. "World Peace Is None of Your Business," which has both the soaring melody and sardonic lyrics for which the artist is prized, is also the title track of his forthcoming album, due out 7/15. Other wonderful song titles include "Neal Cassady Drops Dead," "Earth Is the Loneliest Planet" and "Kick the Bride Down the Aisle." The set, produced by Joe Chiccarelli (The Killers, The Strokes), is available for pre-order at iTunes and on a dedicated album site. Fans may choose a deluxe pre-order to receive signed copies of the singer/songwriter's Autobiography or a custom poster. The video for "World Peace" is a spoken-word performance filmed at Capitol Studios and featuring a cameo by Nancy Sinatra; it's currently available for streaming at iTunes. Morrissey's U.S. tour, with numerous sold-out dates, continues through 6/21. Check back here later on today as we track the impact of this welcome development on the iTunes chart. (5/13a)
