Calamar remixes "Eminence Front"

IT’S NOT A PUT-ON: Music supe/longtime KCRW jock Gary Calamar has something special in his CV—the first-ever remix of a track by The Who. It’s a big deal for Gary, who claims The Who as his first favorite band and Pete Townshend as a hero. “Recently, the people at Spirit Music—which is Pete’s publishing company—threw out the idea of me doing a remix of a Who song,” he recounts on his KCRW blog. “I emphatically said YES and sprang into Townshend-style windmills and scissor kicks as I played my air guitar in the mirror.” Calamar chose “Eminence Front,” which he considers (and we heartily agree) the last great Who song. Enlisting veteran L.A. musician Willie Aron and local producer John Girgus, and dubbing the threesome C.A.G.E., he set to work. Here’s the result. (6/13a)
