ABC Rising Star debut

AIMING FOR THE STARS: ABC's new reality singing competition, Rising Star, which debuted last night, logged 5.1m views, coming in second to NBC's America's Got Talent (8m views). According to ABC, that number represents the network's top-rated summer series debut in two years in Adults 18-49, though. The show, hosted by Josh Groban, uses social media as its distinguishing feature in a crowded field. Contestants perform in front of a three-story digitally enhanced wall. Viewers swipe left or right on the show's app to keep or cut the individual. Results are given in real time, and if a contestant receives more than 70% of the vote, the wall rises and they continue on. Celebrity judges Ludacris, Brad Paisley and Kesha also vote, and earn the contestant a 7% gain. Got that? (6/23p)
