THE HYPHEN & THE SLASH: Warner/Chappell has extended its worldwide publishing deal with The-Dream (aka Terius Nash). That’s a big deal because this guy writes chart-toppers, including Rihanna’s “Umbrella,” Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It),” and Justin Bieber’s “Baby.” The-Dream is also an artist; he recently announced the release of an EP, Royalty: The Prequel, the first on his new label, Contra-Paris. Under the agreement, Warner/Chappell Music will continue to publish The-Dream’s entire catalog of music. In the release, he thanked “Big Jon [Platt] for showing up like a Lord, as well as my team: Mark Stewart, Chaka Pilgrim and Merck ‘MM’ Mercuriadis.” Platt, meanwhile, described The-Dream as “that rarity in our business—a genuine triple-threat: a brilliant songwriter, an ace producer and a compelling artist in his own right. We’re very happy to continue working with such a gifted and prolific talent, and look forward to the next chapter in his career.” (8/5a)
