Music Biz releases doc explaining royalties

A ROYAL PAIN IN THE ASS: Like those blue-shirted Honda salesmen, the Music Business Association is here to be helpful, so the org has created an infographic bearing the title Music Royalties USA Quick Start Guide. The document is intended to simplify the mind-numbing complexity of the royalty structures for physical products and downloads, radio and TV, satellite and cable radio, non-interactive streaming radio, on-demand streaming music services and syncs. The infographic also explains some of the more misunderstood jargon related to royalties and tells songwriters, publishers and performers exactly which entities they need to register with. Before the doc’s release, it was reviewed by ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, the Harry Fox Agency, the Recording Academy and SoundExchange in order to ensure that it fully captured the process. You can grab the Music Royalties USA Quick Start Guide by clicking here. You can also grab previous infographics including the Global Music Licensing Quick Start Guide, SEO for Music Websites and the Artist Website Toolkit. (8/7a)
