ANOTHER BIRD ON THE WIRE: Speaking of new albums from older guys, Columbia has just announced that Leonard Cohen’s 13th studio album, bearing the title Popular Problems and produced by Patrick Leonard, will be released 9/23, two days after his 80th birthday. Rob Stringer seems pretty excited about the whole thing. “Yet again, Leonard Cohen has broken musical boundaries with new creative inspiration,” the Columbia ruler says in this morning’s release. “These nine new songs are simply sublime and innovative, with a unique spirit. We're absolutely thrilled and honored to celebrate this milestone with him.” A pre-order at the iTunes Store will get you the instant-grat track “Almost Like The Blues.” Click here to listen. (8/19a)
