Shazam hits 100m users

FUN WITH NUMBERS: Shazam has surpassed 100 million monthly active users—that’s up by a whopping 34% over this time last year. Even more significantly, the company says that music IDing leads directly to 400k song downloads per day on average. There’s an informative piece in VentureBeat on the rise of the 12-year-old, London-based company to its current status as an integral component of the music-business as well as a growing force in the TV sector. On that score, remember those days when we heard a song in a commercial or a cable series and had to dig through the Internet to find out what it was? That time waster is now a thing of the past. Thank you, Shazam, for making us feel so efficient and well informed. (8/22a)
