VIBE RATES TWO, WITH TYGA, ALABAMA SHAKES IN

Compton Rapper and Deep South Southern Rockers Weigh In
It’s 2012. Do you know where your superstars are?

That’s the question on everybody’s mind as the new year gets underway—along with HITS’ first New and Developing Artists issue of the year, which should’ve just hit your desk, or toilet stall floor as the case may be.

Tyga and Alabama Shakes, step right up, as the two latest entries on the HITS Vibe-Rater chart of the up and coming.

The latest from the Williams’ brothers’ impressive Young Money/Cash Money roster, Compton rapper Tyga enters the Vibe-Raters chart this week, with the red-hot “Rack City” track, which is already blowing up at Crossover, Urban and Top 40 radio in front of the Careless World album’s Feb. 21 release date on Universal Republic. The single’s already racked up over a million in track sales alone, with a national tour starting Feb. 21 through April 15. The rapper’s already nabbed covers of Source and YRB. Check out the full Vibe entry here.

The highly touted Alabama Shakes, led by fiery singer-songwriter Brittany Howard, recently inked to ATO and Coran Capshaw’s Red Light Management, where she was signed by Kevin Morris. The band, from tiny Athens, AL, debuts with their album Boys & Girls, which hits retail April 10. The first track, “Hold On,” is already seeing gains at Triple A stalwarts like WXRT, WXRV, KGSR, WZGC and KCKC as well as PoMo early adopters WEQX, as Ed Green and his promo team pull all the right strings. The Shakes just appeared on Conan last Tuesday (2/7), with tons of press, including Rolling Stone and Spin features and plenty of love from NPR’s Ann Powers. Click here for more.
