WEEZY COME, WEEZY GO

Lil Wayne’s Physical Release Ready to Top Chart; Darius Rucker, Big Time Rush Next

It’s the fourth quarter. Do you know where your superstars are?

The physical version of Lil Wayne’s Cash Money/Universal Motown effort, I Am Not a Human Being, hit retail yesterday, and is on its way to first-week sales of 85-90k, making it a probable #1 on next Tuesday’s HITS Album sales chart.

That’s based on those music retailers who haven’t been trapped in a Chilean coal mine for the last two months.

The new, physical edition of Weezy’s album includes 13 tracks, while the previous online version had 10. In two weeks, Lil Wayne has sold more than 130k downloads in one of the more curious release roll-outs in an increasingly fragmented marketplace. Meanwhile, the rapper himself is locked up in solitary confinement at N.Y.’s notorious Rikers Island after being caught with audio equipment in his cell, but is slated to be released Nov. 4.

Next highest debut goes to Capitol Nashville/EMI Hootie singer-turned-country star Darius Rucker’s Charleston, SC 1966, which is on track for sales of between 80-85k. Rucker’s last album, his country debut, 2008’s Learn to Live, produced three consecutive #1 country singles, on its way to a total of almost 1.5m sold.

Nickelodeon/Columbia’s Big Time Rush, stars of the hit live-action comedy series of the same name, drops with an impressive 60-65k estimate for their debut, B.T.R. The show’s stars Kendall Schmidt, James Maslow, Carlos Pena and Logan Henderson made their network TV debut this week, with a Monday performance on The Today Show to mark the album release. The album features tracks produced by hitmakers Kevin Rudolf, Claude Kelly, S*A*M & Sluggo and OFM.

Universal Republic Nashville’s The Band Perry, a trio consisting of a sister (lead singer Kimberly Perry) and two brothers (bassist Reid and drummer/multi-instrumentalist Neil), are looking at 43-48k for their self-titled debut, which has already produced the gold single, “If I Die Young,” a Top 40 country hit.

Prosthetic Massachusetts metalcore band All That Remains return with their fifth album, For We Are Many, which will do in the 25-30k range, after their previous two albums, 2006’s The Fall of Ideals and 2008’s Overcome, each sold more than 200k, the latter reaching the Top 20 of the album sales charts.

Finally, Cherry Tree/Interscope’s Queens-based Asian-American hip-hop group Far*East Movement, who have the #1 single in the country in ”Like a G6,” are set for a debut of 13-18k for their debut, Free Wired, a little surprising considering the success of the hit, which has sold 1.2m digital downloads.

The market was down 8% vs. last week, down 22% vs. same week last year and still down 13% year to date. Are we having fun yet?
