“I love to play music and would do it all day, every day—but if there is no one to share it with, what’s the point?”
——Mark Russell

WHEELS 2.0 POPS OFF

These Three Up-and-Comers May Be the Most Accessible Acts We’ve Stumbled Across Yet

SPOTLIGHT:
Mark Russell
(www.myspace.com/markrussell): This dichotomous singer/songwriter, repped by management powerhouse WEG, errs on the pop side of things, but Mark has been known to go from serenading a dorm room full of girls to owning his opponents on the lacrosse field. Oh, and did we mention he’s good-looking to boot? He’s shared the stage with Hanson, Jonas Brothers, The Veronicas and Avril Lavigne, and he recently brought our attention to his charity cover of “I Believe” by Blessed Union Of Souls, which debuted on JustinTimberlake.com a couple weeks ago. You can visit his YouTube page for a description of why he chose to cover the song, and his MySpace page to get an in-depth look at rehearsals. The engaging, multitalented artist says, “A lot of artists like to stick themselves in a studio and say they’re in it for the music, which I get, but sometimes I feel like I’m in it for the fans. I love to play music and would do it all day, every day—but if there is no one to share it with, what’s the point? Playing for fans, talking to them—it’s my favorite part of the day.” Mark spent the last several months writing and playing in L.A. and is now back in Florida rehearsing his new tunes with the band. Check the site for frequent updates, and make sure to catch him when he comes through your town.

ARTIST ON THE RISE
Anoop Desai:
Many of you will remember Anoop as a finalist on American Idol Season 8. His album debuted at #16 on the iTunes Pop chart, and his single new single, “All Is Fair (Crazy Love)” is #1 at Clear Channel Online's On Demand less than a week after impacting.

BAND UPDATE
The Daylights
(www.myspace.com/thedaylights): We featured this band back in April and have been following them closely since. They just got off a tour with Katy Perry and OneRepublic, and they’re currently on the road with Civil Twilight. As an unsigned Los Angeles rock trio, they are making a huge impact on the alternative rock scene nationwide. This past year they've played for more than 10 million viewers on national TV and in front of over 100k people live. They appeared on The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson” after Craig happened to catch a performance at the Viper Room. First single “Rogue Machine (Don’t Say That You Want Me)” is currently climbing up the top 50 on the Hot AC Chart and spinning on stations nationwide. Another song, "Happy" will be in the season premiere of the CW’s One Tree Hill on the same date as the album release. Pretty amazing for not being signed! Their album release party and live performance, set for Sept. 14th at Club L in W. Hollywood, is open to the public. Just email [email protected] with “9-14-10” in the subject line to get in.
