RedOne has parlayed his writing/production work with Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson, Sean Kingston, Enrique Iglesias and Akon into a label deal with Universal Music Group.
The Morocan-born, Grammy-winning hitmaker, whose real name is Nadir Khayat, recently named BMI Songwriter of the Year, inked a joint venture deal with Universal Music International for his 2101 Records, with each artist signed to the imprint released by a label within the UMG Group. The first signing is singer/songwriter Mohombi, a 23-year-old born to a Swedish mother and Congolese father, who draws on that diverse cultural heritage to create a distinct musical style that combines African influrnces with a global pop sensibility. RedOne co-wrote the Lady Gaga hits, "Poker Face," "Just Dance," "Boys Boys Boys" and "Bad Romance," among others. Check the exclusive HITS interview with him from last December here.
