WHEELS 2.0 BRINGS THE HEAT

This Week, Jesse Nearly Dislocates His Shoulder While Patting Himself on the Back

by Jesse Beer-Dietz

This week, we spotlight a hot “urban rock” band from Sin City, along with a former American Idol contestant whose voice we absolutely love. You’ll also find an update on one of our favorite bands right now. Keep feedin’ the inbox: [email protected]

BAND SPOTLIGHT
The Rocturnals (www.myspace.com/therocturnalsmusic): Vegas is slowly shedding its image as the burial ground for artists who no longer have a place in mainstream music, thanks to the likes of The Killers, Panic at the Disco and Ne-Yo. Hoping to be the next big act from the city they’re now calling Desert Hollywood, The Rocturnals have created a new musical movement they’ve dubbed “urban rock,” describing it as a combination of “funk rock, alternative rock with soulful overtunes, hip-hop aggression and R&B melodies.” They’re set to debut this year with the album The Life. The other night they had a big show at Swing House Studios, where we hear there was quite the gathering of industry weasels, including Wendy Goldstein, Jamie Neely, Victor Murgatroyd and David Dorn. We expect things to heat up rather quickly with this one, so keep it locked onto www.hitsdailydouble.com and Wheels, as we’ll be updating the action surrounding the band during the coming week with photos and again in next week’s column.

ONE TO WATCH
Charity Vance
(www.myspace.com/charityvancesings): This former Idol contestant had us from the first note fluttering out of her lovely mouth. Focus tracks: “Run Away With Me” and “Icing.” Let us know your thoughts.

BAND UPDATE
The Daylights celebrated the release of their self-titled debut at West Hollywood's Club L. on Wednesday night. The band recently toured with It Girl Katy Perry, who turned out to show her support, along with Daniel Bedingfield, The WallflowersRami Jaffe, Step Up 3D’s Rick Malambri, singer/songwriter/actor Caitlin Crosby and members of Foo Fighters and Goo Goo Dolls. The party was hosted by Chuck’s Zachary Levi, and a contribution from ticket sales will be made to Red Eye Charity. The band is currently on tour with Civil Twilight.
