WHEELS 2.0 IS FEELING LIKE HELL

Make That Hell or Highwater, Just the Band to Keep Jesse Rockin' Through the Heatwave

By Jesse Beer-Dietz

Our offerings this week include a fairly new L.A. band with deep roots in the local scene, and a hip-hop group out of Virginia that’s making noise in the clubs. Keep feedin’ my inbox: [email protected]

SPOTLIGHT

Hell or Highwater (www.facebook.com/HellorHighwaterofficial): These rockers from Los Angeles are fronted by former Atreyu drummer Brandon Saller. The band recently released its debut album, Begin Again, is now on the road with the Uproar festival and will be touring the rest of the year. I had the pleasure of checking this album out, and I have to say it’s quite impressive. Though somewhat softer than Atreyu, it’s loaded with killer hooks and great guitar riffs. Focus tracks: “Hail Mary,” “We All Wanna Go” and “Gimme Love.” They’re repped by Larry Jacobson.

BUZZIN’
Paperchasers
(@paperchasers804)- An interracial rap/hip-hop group from Richmond, Paperchasers are already generating quite the buzz in their area and have been spotlighted twice on 92.1FM. They’re currently working on their third mixtape, preparing to release an album in Japan and searching for an online distribution here in the States. Focus Track: “Boomerang” Check out their YouTube channel and their Facebook page. Contact manager David Cheek ([email protected]) for more info.

BAND UPDATE
Of Verona
, a Wheels favorite, will be doing a KROQ- and Converse-sponsored month-long Sunday residency at The Viper Room beginning Sept. 4. The band’s debut EP, which hit last month, is available for free on their website. The release has gained quite a buzz and garnered fans such as KROQ’s Kat Corbett, who’s been spinning their song “Castles” on her Locals Only show. Some of the finest up-and-coming bands in L.A. will be supporting them. Check here to see the full lineup.
