His new Brushfire/Universal Republic album, To the Sea, will easily be the #1 record next week, with a range of 240-260k in sales. His last release, Sleep Through the Static, came out in Feb. 2008, with a first-week total of 375k.
Next highest debut will be Mercury/IDJ U.K. hip-pop producer/writer/performer Taio Cruz, who’s already topped the stateside singles chart with “Break Your Heart,” featuring Ludacris. His stateside bow, Rokstarr, is the week’s next highest debut, with a total anywhere from 22-27k.
Decca American Idol alum Clay Aiken’s new album, Tried and True, looks on target for 17-20k in first-week sales.
Hitting retail next Tuesday, there’s yet another Columbia Glee Cast album, along with Chop Shop/Atlantic’s Twilight Saga: Eclipse, RCA/RMG’s Christina Aguilera, Sire’s Against Me!, Valory’s Jewel, Universal Republic’s Lil Jon, Atlantic’s Plies, Reprise’s Iyaz, Hollywood’s Grace Potter & the Nocturnals, Capitol Nashville/EMI’s Dierks Bentley and Fueled by Ramen’s Travie McCoy, among others.
The market was down 6% vs. last week, down 13% vs. same week last year and down 11% year to date. Those figures are chillier than Al and Tipper’s marriage, one of our precious few natural resources seemingly impervious to global warming.
