Adam Block Tapped as EVP/GM for Catalog Label, Studios

There's a not-so-new kid on the Block at Sony's Legacy Recordings.

Adam Block has been upped to Executive Vice President and General Manager of Legacy Recordings, Sony Music Entertainment's catalog label.

The announcement was it was announced today by SME Commercial Music Group President Richard "Every Picture Tells a" Story.

In addition to overseeing all aspects of Legacy's label operations, Block now will be responsible for the label's activities across a variety of physical and digital platforms throughout Sony Music territories worldwide. He will supervise and coordinate the development and implementation of third party initiatives, including direct-to-consumer (D2C) and other custom marketing campaigns, and will provide direction for the Commercial Music Group’s newly formed A&R and Content Development department. His new duties will include oversight of Sony Music Entertainment's Battery Studios, a mastering and archive facility in N.Y.serving Sony Music's labels and artists, as well as external clients.

During his tenure, Block has played a key role in the creative direction and marketing of numerous successful Legacy titles, including catalog releases by Michael Jackson, AC/DC, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, Pearl Jam, Journey, Billy Joel, Santana, Jeff Buckley, Miles Davis and Jimi Hendrix, among others.

Block joined Legacy as Director of Marketing in 1992, going on to serve as Senior Director of Marketing from 1995-'98. Upped to VP Marketing for the label in 1998, Block became Legacy's SVP Marketing and GM in 2004.
