Now 40, Twilight Saga, Romeo Santos and Il Divo Debut Top 10, Country Titles Get AMA Boost
Mac Miller’s the hottest thing to emerge from Pittsburgh since the hometown Pirates were singing “We Are Family” on the way to their last World Series win back in ‘79.

The indie rapper, with 2.7 million followers on Facebook, Twitter and MySpace, explodes with a #1 debut for Blue Slide Park, and close to 150k in sales, thanks to an innovative three-pronged approach by indie label Rostrum, digital distribbery INgrooves and Fontana, handling the physical release.

It’s the first independently released debut album to bow in the top spot since Tha Dog Pound’s Dogg Food in 1995 on Priority Records, whose Ron Spaulding is now head of Fontana.

Reprise’s Michael Buble Christmas album looks to be among the holiday’s top sellers, with a 37% increase to 123k, good for #2.

Capitol/EMI’s Now 40 (#3) and Chop Shop/Atlantic’s Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn soundtrack (#4) both enter the Top 5, followed by XL/Columbia’s Adele album 21, now up to 4.4 million, with Grammy nominations surely to come.

Sony Music Latin star Romeo Santos goes solo for the first time with Formula, Vol. 1, which debuts at #8, while Simon Cowell’s Syco/Columbia pop opera stars Il Divo enter at #10 with Wicked Game.

Island/IDJ previous week chart-topper Justin Bieber is now #6, followed by Capitol/EMI’s Coldplay (#7) and Syco/Columbia’s Susan Boyle (#9), giving X Factor creator Cowell two in the Top 10.

Other new Top 50 entries include Reprise’s Disturbed (#13), Strange Music’s Tech N9ne Collabos (#21), Sour Mash/Mercury’s Noel Gallagher’s Flying Birds (#33), eOne’s Keith Sweat (#39) and Capitol/EMI’s Pink Floyd Best of (#44).

Boyle’s The Gift (#32), Big Machine’s Taylor Swift (#48) and Atlantic’s Zac Brown Band (#49) all re-enter.

Last week’s nationally televised Country Music Awards on ABC helped spike sales on several titles, topped off by Republic Nashville’s The Band Perry (#46-25, +109%), Capitol Nashville’s Eric Church (#48-34, +61%), Broken Bow’s Jason Aldean (#25-20, +56%), Capitol Nashville’s Luke Bryan (#29-24, +34%) and Lady Antebellum (#17, +7%). Other double-digit gainers include a pair of holiday discs in Columbia’s Jackie Evancho (#16, +44%) and Merge’s She and Him (#40, +12%).
