This week’s edition of Wheels focuses on a hot young R&B group that may just be this decade’s Destiny’s Child. And in case you missed last week’s illuminating interview with the brainy and beautiful Sarah Saturday, it’s just a click away. Keep feedin’ my inbox: [email protected]
Herstory (http://www.myspace.com/herstorymusic, www.youtube.com/herstorymusic): From The Supremes and The Chiffons to Destiny’s Child and En Vogue, the R&B girl group has cemented its place in musical history. Don’t look now, but here comes the next generation, in the scintillating form of HerStory. Combining their individual singing and dancing talents, Marissa, Miriah and Asia have quickly gained a following via their YouTube and MySpace pages, which feature videos of the girls singing popular R&B ballads in tight three-part harmonies—a cappella clips showcasing the group’s rarefied vocal chops. HerStory captures the essence of three girls on the brink of womanhood, as they continue to perfect a dynamic, emotionally expressive style that younger and older women alike will readily relate to. Is the group the next big thing in R&B? Check out their MySpace page and let us know what you think. The girls are currently finishing up a School Tour (http://www.theschooltour.com/) and BMI has taken the group under its wing, showcasing them at a number of events, the bext of which will be the org’s BET Awards festivities. Their single “At Night” will be impacting radio on the week of July 20.
