T.I. CONTINUES ON #1 TRAIL
The Atlanta rapper’s Paper Trail album on Atlantic spends another week at the top spot on the HITS Album chart, logging in another 170k in sales.
That is more than double the next highest album, DGC/Interscope Windy City rabble-rousing rockers Rise Against, whose Appeal to Reason debuts at #2 with 68k.
Veteran U.K. rockers Oasis are the Top 5’s other chart newcomers, as their Reprise bow, Dig Out Your Soul, debuts behind WB holdovers Metallica (#3) and Arista/RMG Dreamgirls diva Jennifer Hudson’s self-titled first album (#4).
Columbia Rock god Bob Dylan’s Tell Tale Signs, Vol. 8 of his Bootleg Series, enters at #6, while Curb’s Tim McGraw lands at #9 with his Greatest Hits, Vol. 3, put out without his authorization and now the subject of the country superstar’s complaints against the label.
Atlantic’s Kid Rock continues strong at #7, with Def Jam/IDJMG’s Ne-Yo (#8) and Hear Music/Concord’s James Taylor (#10) rounding out the Top 10.
Other chart newcomers include Arista/RMG’s Sarah McLachlan (#11), Vagrant’s Senses Fail (#18), Disney’s Nightmare Revisited soundtrack (#33), Columbia’s Michelle Williams (#37), Artist First/Shangri-La Music’s Pretenders (#38), Atlantic’s Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist soundtrack (#39) Tesla Electric’s Tesla (#41), Razor & Tie’s Devin the Dude (#47) and Island/IDJMG’s Jon McLaughlin (#50).
Capitol’s Kate Perry is the week’s biggest gainer, moving #31-21, +10%, on the strength of the second hit single, “Hot N’ Cold," from her album, One of the Boys.
This week, the deluxe edition of Kenny Chesney’s new BNA album, Lucky Old Sun, hits retail, with a probable chart-topping debut next Tuesday. Also on tap are new albums from Mercury Nashville’s Billy Currington, Interscope’s Keane, Lost Highway’s Lucinda Williams and Syco/SMEI U.K. opera crooner Paul Potts’ reissued Christmas collection, with Columbia’s AC/DC hitting Wal-Marts next Monday (10/20).
