Duffy has become the year's first "it" girl, and now comes Adele, another big-time young U.K. winner who is scoring early and scoring well.

LENNYBEERBLOG: WILL ADELE'S STUNNING DEBUT MAKE HER DUFFY'S FOIL?

Just When You Thought It Was Safe to Go Back on the Web, There's Another Lenny Sighting
It seems like most great stars become bigger stars when there's a yin to their yang. When they have that foil that causes comparisons, with fans lining up on both sides of the fence to endlessly debate their respective and comparative merits.
.
Magic vs. Bird
Sosa vs. McGwire
Mays vs. Mantle
Woods vs. Mickelson
Sampras vs. McEnroe....

And last year in the music business, it was Amy Winehouse vs. Feist. And while Amy was the eventual winner at Grammy time, Feist soared mightily as well, buoyed by the famous IPod commercial and her Best New Artist nomination.

We've seen Duffy become the year's first "it" girl, with a debut album that has soared to 300k sold in two short months, backed by sensational reviews, across-the-board video love highlighted by VH1's hugely successful "You Oughta Know" program, massive licensing love and a solid marketing campaign led by L.A. Reid, David Massey and Steve Bartels' team at IDJ. They've been able to take her U.K. success and platform her into the minds and hearts of the U.S. market, with no end in sight.

And now comes Adele, another big-time young U.K. winner who is scoring early and scoring well, with first-month sales at 60k and gaining. Once again backed by adoring press, with "You Oughta Know" blasting and touting, licensing opportunities abounding, and an overall Sony marketing push led by Rob Stringer, Steve Barnett and Mark Didia. Adele has an album rich in winningly written and performed material, highlighted by her brilliant single "Chasing Pavements," and is building the kind of street buzz that should catapult her sales throughout the year.

Duffy vs. Adele... Adele vs. Duffy... Let the games begin... Somehow, I think we'll still be talking about them when this year's Grammy noms are announced in December.

Oh yeah, and there's one more interesting winner warming up in the bullpen: S-Curve's Little Jackie, who's a breath of fresh air in the Lauryn Hill mode. But that's a story for another blog. For now, hit us up at [email protected], but before you respond, make sure you've actually taken the time to listen to these important new talents. You'll be glad you did.

I have listened to both albums. Count me in the Adele corner. I love, love, love her CD. "Chasing Pavements" is a great song, but it does not stop there. "Melt My Heart to Stone" is gorgeous. "Make You Feel My Love" is a gut wrencher. Not to mention the sentimentality of "Hometown Glory," very easy to relate to. Adele's voice is phenomenal, I like to hear her soar.
I emailed you before when Duffy's CD came out and I do like her CD, but none of the songs moved me emotionally. Adele's music has done that. She speaks a lot of truth for someone so young.
