BOYLE BACK ON TOP?
The unlikely Syco/Columbia superstar continues her Dream weaving with an appearance on the daytime queen’s talk show yesterday that could well send her 3.3 million-selling album back to #1 after an absence of two weeks.
She’s probably the best bet to do so, with Interscope’s Lady Gaga probably her only competition at this point, though you’ll have to stay tuned as to what that sales total will be when more information comes in from our shell-shocked retail reporters still reeling after learning of Conan O’Brien’s exit.
The week’s biggest debut will be Merge’s Spoon, with their much-acclaimed new album Transference, subject of colleague Bud Scoppa’s Rumor Mill raves, which looks to be in the 45-50k range, the second strong indie debut in a row for WMG distributor ADA.
Another alternative success story, Columbia’s Motion City Soundtrack, release their major label debut, My Dinosaur Life, on track for between 28-32k, about the same total as Capitol/EMI’s 2010 Grammy Nominees collection.
Final entry, which could well make the lower portion of the Top 50, is Vagrant’s eels with between 7-10k.
The market was down 4% vs. last week, down 3% vs. same week last year and now down 4% year to date. And now for the good news…
