WHAT A DIFFERENCE A DAY26 MAKES

Bad Boy/Atlantic Boy Group Nails #1, Panic, Crows, Raconteurs, B-52s Debut Top 10
This week’s #1 record beat NSYNC’s 2000 album, No Strings Attached, for the highest first-week sales total in history, with 2.41 million copies sold.

April Fool’s!

Actually, Bad Boy/Atlantic’s Day26 sold about 2.39 million less than that, but in today’s depressed market, that was good enough to go #1, giving P. Diddy two consecutive chart-toppers after last week’s bow by Danity Kane.

Decaydance/Fueled by Ramen Las Vegas art-rockers Panic at the Disco’s Pretty. Odd. bows at #2, with 141k, followed by Geffen’s Counting Crows debuting at #3, with 113k for their latest, Saturday Nights Sunday Mornings.

Other Top 10 debuts are registered by Third Man/WB alternative supergroup The Raconteurs’ rush-released sophomore effort, Consolers of the Lonely (#7) and The B-52sAstralwerks bow Funplex (#9).

Last week’s #1, Bad Boy/Atlantic’s Danity Kane, leads the group of Top 10 holdovers at #4, which include SBMG/Commercial Music Group’s Now 27 (#5), Def Jam/IDJ’s Rick Ross (#6), Brushfire/Universal Republic’s Jack Johnson (#8) and Atlantic’s Flo Rida (#10).

Among the other chart newcomers are Universal Music Latino’s Enrique Iglesias (#17), Columbia’s WWE The Music, Vol. 8 (#24), and Atlantic’s French/Israeli singer-songwriter Yael Naim, who provides the theme to the MacBook Air commercial with “New Soul,” at #48.

Capitol Nashville’s Celebrity Apprentice runner-up Trace Adkins Greatest Hits Vol. 2 returns to the chart at #28, as does Walt Disney’s Enchanted soundtrack (#42) after the DVD release of the movie, along with Fueled by Ramen’s Paramore (#46).

Downtown/Atlantic’s Gnarls Barkley moves #20-12 in its second week, while Universal Motown’s Erykah Badu (#42-26), Pearl RecordsGarth Brooks (#46-39) and ERC’s The Eagles (#50-43) are the other top chart gainers.

Next week, look for Universal Nashville country veteran George Strait to debut high on the chart, with So So Def/Island Urban’s Johnta Austin, a Jermaine Dupree protégé who has written hit songs for Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, Monica and Chris Brown, also hitting with his solo bow. WB’s R.E.M. and Slip-N-Slide/EMI’s Trina have new albums coming out as well.

Next Tuesday (4/8), look for J Records/Syco Music U.K. superstar Leona LewisSpirit to hit retail, with Island/IDJ’s Mariah Carey streeting on tax day, April 15.
