ROCKERS, RAPPERS, EXECS UNITE FOR OBAMA AS STRETCH RUN BEGINS

Open Letters from Springsteen, Jay-Z, Diddy, Mary J. Blige and Kevin Liles Urge Registration, Support for Obama

The U.S. Presidential election is less than a month away, Nov. 4, and Barack Obama’s music industry backers are pulling out all the stops.

Separate missives from Bruce Springsteen, along with an open letter from Diddy, Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige and Kevin Liles, have gone out urging voters to support the Democratic presidential candidate.

The Boss is in Philadelphia for a voter registration drive, and writes an open letter, in which he says, “I’ve spent most of my creative life measuring the distance between American promise and American reality… I believe Senator Obama has taken the measure of that distance in his own life and in his work. I believe he understands, in his heart, the cost of that distance, in blood and suffering, in the lives of everyday Americans. I believe as president, he would work to restore that promise to so many of our fellow citizens who have justifiably lost faith in its meaning. After the disastrous administration of the past eight years, we need someone to lead us in an American reclamation project…

"I've continued to find, wherever I go, America remains a repository of people's hopes, possibilities, and desires, and that despite the terrible erosion to our standing around the world, accomplished by our recent administration, we remain, for many, a house of dreams. One thousand George Bushes and one thousand Dick Cheneys will never be able to tear that house down… Now I don't know about you, but I want that dream back, I want my America back, I want my country back. So now is the time to stand with Barack Obama and Joe Biden, roll up our sleeves, and come on up for the rising.”

Dubbed “An Open Letter to Young America,” Diddy, Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige and Kevin Liles urge voters to register to vote before it's too late: “We are at war, banks are closing, people are losing their jobs and houses every day. It is our responsibility to protect our futures… Barack Obama cannot win this election on his own; he needs our help. This election is about us. This election is about our children's future. If you have not registered to vote, you are disrespecting everyone that sacrificed their lives for you to have the right. You are also disrespecting your future. The time is NOW for us to use the voices with which God has blessed us. We need you to do all you can.

"Make sure that on November 4, we are able to say that we did everything in our power to make sure that Barack Obama becomes the next President of the United States. VISIT www.VoteForChange.com to register to vote TODAY!"
