JACKSON MOVIE OK’ED BY JUDGE

Friedman Reports of Possible Las Vegas home for “This Is It” Production

The AEG deal for a Michael Jackson movie, created from reharsal footage for his "This Is It" shows and acquired by Sony Pictures for a reported $60 million, has been approved by a judge at a hearing in a downtown L.A. court today.

Katherine Jackson’s lawyer Burt Levitch said his client was in favor of the agreement, which means, according to Showbiz 411’s Roger Friedman, the film can go ahead with its planned Oct. 30 opening. In fact, Friedman insists the movie is pretty much finished, and will be transferred from AEG to Sony Pictures’ secure editing bay for final lockdown in anticipation of a “massive marketing campaign.” With prints and promotion, Friedman estimates the final price tag closer to $75 million, as Sony Music races to deliver a CD soundtrack to accompany the film.

Friedman adds one of the options being considered by AEG and the estate is to use the sets, production and performers intended for Jackson’s ill-fated tour and sell the show as a permanent fixture at a Las Vegas casino.

Meanwhile, at today’s hearing, TMZ.com reports that Howard Weitzman, a lawyer for the Jackson estate, says Katherine is not in full agreement with some financial issues.

The judge also made AEG documents regarding the concert available to law enforcement, while reiterating the confidentiality agreement in the documents as regards Katherine.

Her lawyer said she might want to use the AEG agreement in a non-probate proceeding, which could mean she’s considering a wrongful death suit.

The judge then discussed appointing a separate guardian for Michael’s children, to have their interests represented in matters of the estate as opposed to their guardian Katherine’s lawyers.

Michael’s mom also reportedly had some issues regarding the AEG merchandising agreement with Bravado.
