ONE BLOCK RADIUS AND THE FAINT FEEL THE VIBE

New Hip-Hop Hybrid and Omaha Tech Veterans Enter the Race
Mercury/IDJ’s hip-hop hybrid trio One Block Radius and Blank.Wav/RED’s Nebraska-based new wave dance rockers The Faint are the latest entries to HITSVibe-Raters section, which reflects those bands ready to break through, based on retail, radio and media activity.

SoCal-based One Block Radius are already charting at Crossover and Top 10, with early callout at KQKS and KEZE, with Top 10 phones at KSFM for “You Got Me,” the first single from their self-titled debut, which streets Sept. 2. Ryan Seacrest debuted the video on the KIIS website last month, and the clip can now be seen on MySpace and AOL Music.

The band is composed of three rap veterans in Chico, CA, native Marty James, Indiana-born DJ MDA and San Francisco’s MC Z-Man, who count among their influences hardcore prog-rap pioneers like The Pharcyde, De La Soul and Cypress Hill, ska-rockers Sublime and classic ‘80s soul crooners Stevie Winwood, Hall and Oates and David Bowie.

The Faint’s first self-released album, Fasciinatiion, after being on noted indie Saddle Creek, is getting plenty of love at Specialty radio, where the first single, “The Geeks Were Right,” is #1, while building a strong PoMo story at Indie 103, KCCQ, KZBD and more. The video has been added at mtvU, while the band headlines it own U.S. tour through Aug. 23, with four sold-out shows this week in San Francisco and London.

The Faint consists of Todd Fink, Jacob Thiele, Dapose, Joel Petersen and Clark Baechle. The group originally included Bright EyesConor Oberst and was on that band’s Omaha-based Saddle Creek label, which released its last album, 2004’s Wet From Birth.
