DAUGHTRY'S NEW KING OF POP

American Idol Alum Will Finally Topple MJ with Leave This Town
Sony Music will continue to rule the HITS Album chart next week, but not with Michael Jackson.

After three straight weeks of Jackomania, yet another American Idol, this one named Daughtry, should be #1 on next week's HITS Top 50 with Leave This Town, his sophomore 19/RCA/RMG album, which will bow in the 240-260k range.

That's based on one-day sales reports from those retailers who still have Michael Jackson catalog on their shelves.

Wal-Mart, which has ruled each of the past two weeks with around 200k in sales of Jackson's Number Ones is on target, as of today, to sell about half that number. Similar trends may also be occurring at other retailers, but we won't know for sure until tomorrow. So don't bother asking, but we'll keep you informed because it's still early in the chart week and anything can happen. Here's how the rest of this week's key debuts are shaping up.

The Dead Weather, Jack White's new band (he plays drums) with The Kills' sultry lead singer Alison Mosshart, are next up with their new Third Man/WB album, Horehound (think Janis Joplin and Big Brother and the Holding Company circa 1968), which will sell in the 45-50k range.

Kedar/Fontana R&B crooner Joe follows in the 35-40k for his latest, Signature.

Capitol speed rapper/toaster Twista is the next highest debut at 30-35k, with RMR/Virgin Aussie punk-rock transplants Sick Puppies at 15-18k for their latest, Tri-Polar, while June Baby's Brooke White is in the 8-10k range.

The market was up 5% over last week, down 1% over the same week last year (even with MJ selling more than 1.1m) and still down 14% year to date.
