BEST BUY’S SCHAIDLER NAMED SBMG SALES

Veteran Retailer Moves to Label Side, Reporting to Hesse
In news that caught everybody—except HITS' own retail guru Mark Pearson—by surprise, Jennifer “J.J.” Schaidler is named EVP Sales for Sony BMG Music Entertainment by President Global Digital Business and U.S. Sales Thomas “Steppenwolf” Hesse.

Schaidler will oversee SBMG’s combined physical and digital sales division, working with the company’s various labels and divisions to break new artists, and build an even stronger retail presence for established artists. She will act as the company’s chief liaison to the physical and digital retail communities, and work closely with the company’s labels to develop fully integrated sales initiatives for both the traditional retail environment, as well as for online and mobile platforms. And then, on the seventh day, she’ll rest.

Commented Hesse: "Jennifer understands retail better than just about anyone else in the business, and her extensive knowledge and experience will be a strong asset for Sony BMG. I look forward to working closely with her as we build innovative new sales initiatives that make the most of the complementary worlds of physical and digital sales, and deliver real value for both our artists and the retail community."

Added Schaidler: "I’m delighted to be joining Sony BMG. The company is home to absolutely amazing artists, a broad array of legendary record labels, and some of the best executive talent in the business. It’s both a personal pleasure and a professional honor to be joining the company’s management team, and I look forward to working with the entire sales team as we develop strategies that span the physical and digital worlds, and deliver meaningful results. And continue not taking Pearson’s phone calls."

Schaidler most recently served as VP Music MP3/Mobile Electronics for Best Buy, a post she’d held since 2006. She developed the company’s strategic business plan for music, including CDs, digital music and MP3s, and interfaced with the music and digital entertainment communities. Before that, she was VP Cellular/Best Buy Mobile, and from VP Music at the company. From 2001 to 2003, she was VP/GM for Redline Entertainment, a Best Buy subsidiary dedicated to the creation of music and home video content. She joined Best Buy in 1991 as VP Brand Advertising and Communications.

Schaidler served on the NARM board since 2005. She holds a BA degree in Speech Communications from the University of Minnesota.
