TATTERSFIELD TAPPED TO HEAD UP WARNER U.K.

Cohen and Reid Prioritize A&R in Appointing the Highly Regarded Creative Exec
Warner Music has named 14th Floor Records founder Christian Tattersfield as the new Chairman/CEO of Warner Bros U.K., reporting to Warner Music Europe Chairman John Reid. In this post, he’ll will assume responsibility for all of Warner Music’s labels in the U.K., including Warner Bros., Atlantic and Rhino. Tattersfield replaces Korda Marshall, who left his managing director’s post last October to relaunch Infectious.

Concurrently, Atlantic U.K. president Max Lousada has been promoted to Chairman of the label.

The news brought the inevitable round of quotes from the principals.

Said Reid: “I’m delighted to announce Christian’s appointment to this pivotal role, and to be placing our U.K. business under such capable leadership. His unrivaled A&R vision, creative marketing instincts and commitment to his artists has resulted in some of the most extraordinary success stories of recent years, notable both for their critical acclaim as well as their popularity”.

Added WMG Vice Chairman Lyor Cohen: “Christian is that rare executive who combines incredible creative instincts with real understanding of today's music business. By consistently and passionately putting artists first, he has established an impressive track record of artist development that makes him an exceptional fit for Warner Music. I am confident Christian’s addition to the team positions us to build on those foundations and grow our business in this important market.”

Commented Tattersfield: “Cultivating an environment where artists can achieve their full creative potential has always been my priority, and I know that ambition is shared by everyone at Warner Music Group. A&R has been at the heart of each label I have founded, so I am excited to be joining a company whose rich musical heritage is matched only by its continued commitment to artistic excellence. I look forward to working with the talented team at Warner Music U.K. to cement its position as the first-choice destination for artists looking to build successful and enduring careers.”

Tattersfield began his career at London Records in 1990, seven years later moving to BMG, where he founded the NorthWestSide label, whose signings included Jay-Z, Another Level and NSYNC. After subsequently joining East West Records as MD, Tattersfield signed David Gray before establishing 14th Floor in 2002. Among his accomplishments at the latter label was remixing Ray LaMontagne’s “Trouble” single, transforming the American newcomer into a star in Britain.
