TAYLOR SWIFT, MICHAEL JACKSON LEAD AMA NOMS

Live ABC Telecast from L.A.’s Nokia Theater Takes Place Nov. 22
It’ll be a battle between a very live pop star and a dead icon at this year’s 37th annual American Music Awards, set for L.A.’s Nokia Theater on Nov. 22, with a live (except on the West Coast) prime-time telecast on ABC.

Taylor Swift leads the field with a total of six nominations for the annual Dick Clark extravaganza, which were announced this morning at the Beverly Hills Hotel by Paula Abdul, Adam Lambert and Snoop Dogg.

Alicia Keys, Black Eyed Peas, Jennifer Lopez and Lambert are the first announced performers.

Swift will vie with the late Michael Jackson, who received five nominations, in the Artist of the Year category, along with Eminem, who received four noms, Kings of Leon and Lady Gaga, who received three apiece. Beyonce, Black Eyed Peas and T.I. also had three nominations each. Swift is also up for Favorite Female Artist Pop/Rock, Favorite Album Pop/Rock, Favorite Female Artist Country, Favorite Album Country and Favorite Artist Adult Contemporary.

For the third year, winners will be determined by online voting at www.ama.abc.com, www.amavote.com and www.mycokerewards.com, the official voting location starting today. For the first time in the show's history, fans can also vote to determine the final four nominees for the T-Mobile Breakthrough Artist Award. The move toward involving the audience seems to have worked, with last year's show attracting 12.2 million viewers, up from a low of 10.9 million in 2006.
