NASHVILLE ROCKERS AND IDOL ALUM MAKE THE VIBE

Kings of Leon and David Cook Get Their Buzz On Vibe Rater Chart
A group of critical darlings with a surprise Top 5 bow and an American Idol rocking out in his album debut are this week’s two additions to the HITS Vibe Raters chart.

RCA/RMG’s Kings of Leon finally break through in the States after topping the charts in the U.K. with their fourth album, Only by the Night, which scores a Top 5 debut on this week’s HITS sales chart, racking up 70k.

The Nashville rockers are coming off performances on Saturday Night Live and Letterman, as well as a Spin cover and a developing PoMo radio story for the first single, “Sex on Fire,” already topping the charts in Britain. Adds at major-market stations like KROQ, KTBZ and WRFF have the song in the Top 10, with spins at KRZQ, KYSR, KDLD, KBZT and KTBZ, among others. The U.S. tour beings Oct. 11 in Las Vegas through Nov. 19, with a U.K. swing to follow. Upcoming appearances include Leno, with video rotation on MTV2’s Elite 8, VH1 and Fuse, along with two million YouTube views.

19/RCA/RMG American Idol winner David Cook’s debut album, produced by Grammy winner Rob Cavallo, hits Nov. 18, but there’s already action on the single, “Light On,” with major spin increases at Top 40, including adds at KRBE, WBZW, WWWQ, WQAL, WQAI, KMXV and CKEY. After one day on iTunes, the single is Top 10. Look for multiple TV appearances and a video, now filming, to impact by the end of the month.
