WHEELS 2.0 IS A ROADRUNNER, GOIN’ FASTER MILES AN HOUR

You've Gotta Be Able to Speed-Shift to Cover L.A. and New York at the Same Time
Wheels continues to build momentum this week with an impressive array of artists whose musical styles cover the spectrum. Breakout star Anton Yelchin shows us his digs in a new L.A. punk band, while Acafool is holding it down in the Big Apple. Our one to watch this week is a special gem in Los Angeles, marked by struggle, perseverance and damn good lyrics. We’ve come hard the first half of the year, and with Memorial Day marking the start of the summer season, we’re looking to you to drown our ears in good music. Hit us at [email protected].

ONE TO WATCH
Brevi (www.myspace.com/brevi) is an L.A.-based singer/songwriter/rapper whose music is an experience that defies categorization. Whatever genre she inhabits out from song to song, listeners seem to enjoy it; they can feel Brevi's unique style and her ability to paint reality into timeless artistic pieces. Growing up in L.A. with a single mother wasn’t easy for Brevi, and her music is an expression of the hardships and struggles she experienced, as well as the perseverance that got her through tough times. Be on the lookout for her upcoming release on Syatt/Universal Republic. We think this one is special.

ON DECK
The Hammerheads (www.myspace.com/thehammerheadshollywood): This new punk rock band out of Hollywood is the brainchild of several young and talented musicians. The Hammerheads’ music is primarily written by songwriter, guitarist, vocalist and accomplished actor Anton Yelchin (Charlie Bartlett, Huff, Star Trek). Darian Campbell, son of Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell, plays lead guitar, with Dave Glowacki of Romeo Delta on slide guitar, percussion, harmonica and vocals. Rounding out the band are award-winning drummer Ryan Dean and Dylan Duboraw on electric and upright bass. Name-checking Rancid, Iggy Pop and The Cramps as influences, the band has been tearing up the L.A. club circuit. Catch their gig on May 31 at the Viper Room.

Acafool (www.myspace.com/acafoolinc): His buzz is stretching across the country following his first breakout hit “Hatablockas,” which has received over 5000 spins on 40+ powerhouse stations, while his follow-up “Ride” is making an impact with N.Y. DJs and industry tastemakers alike. Most recently, this bangin’ club track was featured in Fast & Furious: New Model, Original Parts, and Acafool has been featured in XXL twice now. He’s garnering interest for his daring and fresh perspective, and for bringing beats that you just can’t get out of your head. He’s currently putting the finishing touches on his upcoming mixtape release, Fastlane. Don’t be an airhead—get on this now.

BAND/ARTIST UPDATES:
Static Summer (www.myspace.com/staticsummermusic): Sources tell us that the weasels will be out in full force for this band as they showcase their talents for a group of industry heavyweights next month. The show is invite-only; so don’t try to squeeze your way in. You’ll just have to wait ‘til the announcement and tour.
