DAUGHTRY REIGNS, BUT JACKSON STILL RULES

Idol Alum Takes #1, Jackson has five of the Top 10, Eight of Top 20
Maybe Daughtry’s not the new King of Pop, but he has enough to land at #1 this week, with 270k in sales for his 19/RCA/RMG album Leave This Town, the American Idol alum’s sophomore effort.

Meanwhile, Michael Jackson continues his posthumous sales binge with five of the Top 10, and eight of the Top 20, including two Jackson 5 collections.

Last week’s chart-topping Number Ones (#2), Essential (#3) and Thriller (#4) land in the Top 5, while Off the Wall (#8) and Bad (#9) remain in the Top 10. Dangerous continues just outside at #11, while Motown’s Jackson 5 Ultimate Collection (#17) and the debuting 20th Century Masters (#20) round out the late superstar’s still-incredible chart presence.

Columbia’s Maxwell (#5) and Sony Music’s Now 31 (#7) give SME all but two of the Top 10, which also includes Disney’s Hannah Montana 3 soundtrack (#6) and Interscope’s Black Eyed Peas (#10).

Other Top 50 bows include Kedar Entertainment/Fontana’s Joe (#12), Third Man/WB’s The Dead Weather (#13), Get Money Gang/EMI’s Twista (#14), Universal Republic’s iTunes alternative exclusive Owl City (#33), New Line’s Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince soundtrack (#37), Tooth & Nail Christian rockers August Burns Red (#38), RMR/Virgin’s Sick Puppies (#41), Roadrunner’s Devildriver (#44) and Weathermaker Music’s Clutch (#49).

RCA’s Kings of Leon, riding the breakout crossover smash, “Use Somebody,” is the week’s biggest gainer, moving #21-16, +12%.

Other positives are registered by Atlantic’s Zac Brown Band (#24, +9%), Roadrunner’s Nickelback (#26, +6%), Columbia’s Beyonce (#42, +6%), Mercury Nashville’s Billy Currington (#48, +6%), Big Machine’s Taylor Swift (#15, +2%) and Broken Bow’s Jason Aldean (#27, +2%).

This week’s releases include 19/Jive/JLG’s Jordin Sparks, Hollywood’s Demi Lovato and Pulse Recordings/Fontana’s Sugar Ray.

Now, please excuse us, while we get back to looking through ESPN sportscaster Erin Andrews’ peephole.
