Lenny Loses His Balance Trying to Do the OK Go Dance but Avoids a Recurrence of the Infamous “Golf Cart Accident”
IVANA: did anything happen while i was away? did you hire someone to take my job (please!)
LENNY: how can one replace the irreplaceable?
IVANA: yes, i'm the highest paid "telemarketer" in
l.a.LENNY: people usually get on the phone with telemarketers before hanging up
IVANA: that's a good point
LENNY: how was your trip to
hawaiiIVANA: i got sun poisoning and read a bunch of books, and spent way too much time on the blackberry
LENNY: did you listen to any radio?
IVANA: nope, just the sound of the ocean
LENNY: howabout on your ipod?
IVANA: only when i went for my morning hike--enjoyed the "shuffle" feature. oh, i saw the spot where you had the infamous golfcart accident
LENNY: ooooooh, not a pretty picture
IVANA: there's a memorial statue there
LENNY: hey, i'm not dead
IVANA: sorry. I meant commemorative. so my pal
steven strick lost his job in the
r&r/
vnu merger
LENNY: lots of peeps got let go....
gary bird,
barry fiedel,
bobby poe and
kal rudman, too
IVANA: i miss them all
LENNY: me too, i miss everything, even the bad stuff
IVANA: jj grossman is wearing his official "
columbia" hat now. he'll be killer
LENNY: excellent, and i am having dinner tonite with
don ienner and
michelle anthony, they were killed
IVANA: they still had a better run than anybody
LENNY: no doubt about that
IVANA: except me and
todd, but we're not threatening
LENNY: not threatening to who? i am scared of you every single day
IVANA: as if
bill carroll wasn't already your favorite, did you see the adds he's getting this week on
red jumpsuit apparatus?
waqz,
wlrs,
wocl to name a few
LENNY: bill carroll is a fucking genius.... he had this one all the way
IVANA: he just told me that
30 seconds to mars will be gold by week's end. the first plaques should go to him and
howard p.
LENNY: no doubt..... we extol his praises every week
IVANA: because he's your favorite. a title i once held...
LENNY: he is my favorite because he is breaking new artists in an environment where others feel it is impossible. working hard records with what seems like a plan
IVANA: mark czarra and
steph harty have done a masterful job with
blue october for sure
LENNY: an excellent job. and the new
klaiman squad is breaking
hinder IVANA: when given the opportunity, i can also work some magic, but i may need a few more weeks vacation to get my "mojo" back (and i'm not talking about the
peeping tom song).
LENNY: and you can't be faking it, like “fake tales of
san Francisco”
IVANA: btw,
cimx detroit added
spoon's "i turn my camera on” this week! only 17 months after the record came out. because of the
jaguar commercial, the song is a callout monster
LENNY: that spoon song is a fucking smash. it's about time someone came in and nailed it--it's a pop hit also
IVANA: it's in "power recurrent" at
krox and
knrk too. i'll see the band this week opening for
death cab for cutieLENNY: it needs to be in power
current everywhere. maybe we should start a campaign for spoon. after all, it is my favorite utensil band
IVANA: so you've said. i think you might be on to something
LENNY: what label are they on?
IVANA: merge. so one of my other favorite people,
alan galbraith, is proving unequivocally that
evanescence is a core modern rock band. the new single is going everywhere!
LENNY: whatta smash that is
IVANA: he's got a new band called
pilot speed that radio people seem to love… not surprisingly, the
jet song is going on the radio this week as swiftly as the
killers song went on. you remember when bill carroll broke jet, right?
LENNY: so, your point is that bill carroll is every promotion man in the world to me?
IVANA: did i have a point?
LENNY: no, because there are others i believe in as well
IVANA: we both think
jacqueline is a genius
LENNY: true dat, homie
IVANA: and i've known
ted for 20+ years, and you sit next to him at clippers games
LENNY: and the
jive team has done a wonderful job with
three days graceIVANA: i've known lorraine for 25+ years! i'd want her in battle with me
LENNY: speaking of battles, what new artists do you think have a chance to breakthru in the coming months. new or developing let's say?
IVANA: ok--two on
hollywood:
plain white t's and
spartaLENNY: love those, and speaking of ok, whattabout
ok go with all the mega-activity on the video
IVANA: over 2 million streams on
www.youtube.com in less than a week for “here it goes again.”
LENNY: that video is hilarious
IVANA: 18 visions on
epic has a big buzz. also, hinder on
republicLENNY: yes, very
nine inch nails-ish... and hinder is e-fucking-normous
IVANA: cartel could be as big as
the fray. i feel strongly about
arctic monkeys and peeping tom. and i hope there are some surprises--bands we haven't even heard yet
LENNY: when is the plain white t's going for official adds, that's a real goodie, and a great starter for
joey scoleriIVANA: who cares when the official date is--he'll have the song charted by then!
LENNY: sor-reeeeeeee for asking
IVANA: when we do the column every week it really outlines how little we have to say
LENNY: or how slowly the marketplace is moving
IVANA: i guess after 20 years of hits, we've seen it all and said it all. that is, until the NEXT stupid thing happens
LENNY: which will be soon, i am sure
IVANA: i'll keep you posted--in the meantime, say goodnight,
gracieLENNY: goodnight gracie, and goodnight
mrs. Calabash, wherever you are
