CAILLAT BUBBLING OVER, NOW 25 AND HOW

Universal Republic’s Colbie Caillat Crashes Top 5, Thanks to “Bubbly,” UMe's Now 25 in Line for #1
There’s a new star on the horizon and it’s all about to “Bubbly” over, thanks in large part to iTunes.

Universal Republic’s red-hot Malibu-bred singer/songwriter Colbie Caillat, daughter of Fleetwood Mac producer Ken, is set to crash the Top 5 on next week’s HITS Album Sales chart.

The success of her debut, Coco, is being fueled by the hit single, “Bubbly,” an effervescent, frothy slice of Carole King/Joni Mitchell pop that has been the free download of the week at iTunes, with the album selling almost 15k in just two days there.

Coming on the heels of breakout act Amy Winehouse, label prez Monte Lipman looks like he's got another winner.

Going into the weekend, Caillat is on target for 55-60k in sales, which would place her #4 this Tuesday. It’s the same formula employed by Epic’s Sara Bareilles, who also used a free iTunes download to kick-start her debut, now ensconced in the Top 50.

Otherwise, it’s pretty much business as usual. UMe’s release of Now 25, the latest edition of the best-selling hits compilation set, will easily be #1, with a total that looks now to be between 220-230k, but could go even higher, depending on weekend traffic.

Disney’s Hannah Montana 2 remains strong at #2, with between 120-125k, leapfrogging repeat winner T.I.’s Grand Hustle/Atlantic album, which drops to #3, followed by last week’s runner-up, Reprise’s Smashing Pumpkins, at #4.

New Line’s Hairspray soundtrack takes advantage of the film version of the musical based on the 1988 John Waters movie, starring John Travolta no less playing the role popularized by the late cross-dresser Divine and then Harvey Fierstein on Broadway, set to land at #6 with between 50-55k in sales, or even higher depending on the weekend box office. That would put it in a dogfight with WB’s Linkin Park, Interscope/A&M’s Fergie and RCA/RMG’s Kelly Clarkson. Universal Republic chanteuse Winehouse (50-55k) rounds out the Top 10.
