Rodel's Rhapsodic Re Rage Reunion
By Rodel Delfin

We’re truly ecstatic about the announcement of Rage Against the Machine’s headline slot at this year’s Coachella, having been a fan of the band since their beginnings, all the way back to Tom Morello’s earlier outfit, Lock Up. And catching one of Rage’s early shows at UCLA in the tiny student union was one of the reasons why we got in this loony business. (In hindsight, maybe we should have continued on to law school.) So we just want to remind you folks that this space was the first to report on a Rage reunion several months ago. As of now, the band’s management remains split, with Dan Field handling Morello, Brad Wilk and Tim Commerford, while William Morris’ Sarah Newkirk has been managing Zack de la Rocha for his solo project. Inside sources share that the moves to reunite and do a one-off show came directly from the band. No word yet on future tour plans or an album. But if a new Rage album came together, it would be released on Epic. We’ll definitely be in the desert in April. And much respect to A&R vet Michael Goldstone for signing one of our favorite bands… KROQ BUZZ LEADS TO DERBY: The trend-setting station’s spins of Aussie group the Sick Puppies developed a good ol’ fashioned bidding derby in the past few weeks. Jason Flom, the just-named head of the newly formed Capitol Music Group, gets the kudos for closing the band while still the Virgin ruler. And while there was a big YouTube buzz for the group’s “Free Hugs/All the Same” video, we only caught a couple labels checking them out at their Cinespace show back in October, among a roomful of fans. Goes to show that radio buzz for unsigned acts still means a lot. Incidentally, the group was originally signed to former Trauma Records co-founder Paul Palmer’s RMR Music Group. Legal eagle Brian Schall mediated the new deal… Speaking of Virgin, there’s early radio buzz for The Almost, which is the first band upstreamed from Tooth & Nail Records to Virgin proper. A&R hitter David Wolter made the executive moves on that one… On the pub tip, there are several new acts with upcoming/current releases that pubcos are interested in making plays for. Among them, RCA act Test Your Reflex and Capitol’s Saosin have reportedly been doing the meet-and-greet with publishers. Insiders share that deal discussions have been hovering in the mid-six figures… Who says artist development is dead? Band Boot Camp has lent a hand in the development of such acts as Hollywood Records group Plain White T’s and Warner Bros. band Rock Kills Kid. The company was started by former A&R guy Loren Israel. Their latest development project, Midnight Hour, signed with Luke Wood at Interscope last month. Peep it at www.my space.com/bandbootcampBUZZIN’: Bridges and The 88… Hit me up: [email protected]
