Underground Kingz Now Overground with Jive/ZLG Effort #1, Hollywood’s Teenpop Punks Debut at #5
They’ve been around for 20 years, but this is their first-ever #1 album.

Veteran Texas rappers U.G.K., aka the Underground Kingz, hit the heights with their self-titled Jive/ZLG release, which debuts at the top of the HITS Album Sales chart with 156k.  

The rap duo, Chad “Pimp C” Butler and Bernard “Bun B” Freeman, come from Port Arthur, Janis Joplin’s Lone Star hometown, and are most famous for appearing on Jay-Z’s “Big Pimpin’” and Three Six Mafia’s “Sippin’ on Some Sizzurp.”

Slip-N-Slide/Asylum/WB rapper Plies, sporting an impressive solid-gold grill, emerges from Pakistan, FL, with The Real Testament, riding the hit single, “Shawty” featuring T-Pain, to a #2 bow and 91k in sales.

The week’s other big debut is Hollywood’s teenpunkers the Jonas Brothers, whose release in the innovative, much-ballyhooed new CDVU+ format generates an impressive 70k and a #5 entry.

The rest of the Top 10 includes UTV/UMe’s Now 25 (#3), Disney’s Hannah Montana 2/Miley Cyrus combo (#4), New Line’s Hairspray (#6), Geffen's Common (#7), Interscope/A&M’s Fergie (#8), Grand Hustle/Atlantic’s T.I. (#9) and Razor & Tie’s money-making Kidz Bop 12 (#10).

Epic's hard rocking Fuel is the only other Top 50 debut, with Angels & Devils entering at #45.

With High School Musical 2 released today, Disney's first HSM soundtrack experiences the week's largest double-digit gain, going #40-30, +10%. Also up in sales are Jive/ZLG's Justin Timberlake (#39-32, +6%), Sony BMG Latin's El Cantante soundtrack with Marc Anthony (#31, +4%) and Universal Republic's rehabbing Amy Winehouse (#12, +3%).

In addition to HSM2, the other only other significant new release this week is RCA's Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds Live at Radio City album.
