Kanye West leads the nominations with 10 nods, including Album of the Year, Best New Artist and Song of the Year.
Following West, Alicia Keys and Usher each earned eight nominations, including Album of the Year. Ray Charles received seven nods, including Album of the Year and Record of the Year, while Green Day copped six and Norah Jones, Loretta Lynn, Prince, and engineer Al Schmitt each earned five.
Nominees for Album Of The Year include Genius Loves Company by Ray Charles & Various Artists; American Idiot by Green Day; The Diary Of Alicia Keys by Alicia Keys; Confessions by Usher; and The College Dropout by Kanye West.
Nominees for Record Of The Year include Black Eyed Peas’ "Let's Get It Started,” Ray Charles and Norah Jones’ "Here We Go Again,” Green Day’s "American Idiot," Los Lonely Boys’ "Heaven" and Usher’s "Yeah!"
Nominees for Best New Artist are Los Lonely Boys, Maroon 5, Joss Stone, Kanye West and Gretchen Wilson.

Besides Album of the Year, Best New Artist and Song of the Year, West’s 10 nominations include an Album of the Year nod for producing on Alicia Keys’ The Diary of Alicia Keys, Best R&B Song for Keys’ “You Don’t Know My Name,” Best Rap Solo Performance for his “Through the Wire,” Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for Twista’s “Slow Jamz” (also featuring Jamie Foxx), Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for his own “All Falls Down” with Syleena Johnson, Best Rap Song for his “Jesus Walks” and Best Rap Album for College Dropout.
Keys’ eight nominations include Album of the Year, Song of the Year (“If I Ain’t Got You”), Best Female R&B Vocal Performance (“If I Ain’t Got You”), two for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for “Diary” (featuring Tony! Toni! Toné!) and Usher’s “My Boo,” Best R&B song (“My Boo”) and Best R&B album.
Usher’s eight include Record of the Year (Yeah!), Album of the Year, Best Male R&B Vocal Performance (“Burn”), Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals (“My Boo”), two for Best R&B Song for “Burn” and “My Boo,” Best Contemporary R&B Album and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration (“Yeah!”).
Charles’ seven nods include Record of the Year (“Here We Go Again” with Norah Jones), Album of the Year, two for Best Pop Collaboration with vocals for “Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word” with Elton John and “Here We Go Again” with Jones, Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance (“Sinner’s Prayer” with B.B. King) and Best Gospel Performance (“Heaven Help Us All” with Gladys Knight).
Green Day’s six nominations are for Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group, Best Rock Song, Best Rock Album and Best Short-Form Music Video, all for either the song “American Idiot” or the album of the same name.
Of those earning five nods apiece, Jones collected nominations for Record of the Year and Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals for “Here We Go Again” with Charles, plus Best Female Pop Performance for “Sunrise,” Best Pop Vocal Album for Feels Like Home and Best Country Collaboration with Vocals for her duet with Dolly Parton on “Creepin’ In.”
Lynn earned her five for Best Country Album for Van Lear Rose, Best Female Country Vocal Performance and Best Country Song for “Miss Being Mrs.” And Best Country Collaboration with Vocals and Best Country Song for “Portland Oregon” with Jack White.
And engineer Schmitt earned four of his five for his work connected to Charles’ Genius Loves Company: Record of the Year (“Here We Go Again”), Album of the Year, Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical and Best Surround Sound Album. His fifth nomination was in the Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical category, for Diana Krall’s The Girl in the Other Room.

Portnow promises that the 47th Grammy Awards show, to be held February 13, 2005 at Staples Center in L.A. and broadcast live on CBS, will deliver “music's biggest night filled with unique, special, and unforgettable performances."
All we know is, it won’t be the same without Ol’ Dirty Bastard.
