IT’S A WONDERFUL GREEN DAY

Reprise Rockers Grab #1 Slot, Eminem, Shania Twain, John Legend and Lil’ Jon Trail
There’s an Idiot wind blowing at the top of the album chart this week.

Reprise rockers Green Day’s American Idiot climbs to the #1 spot with 99k albums sold, beating back last week’s champ, Shady/Aftermath/Interscope rapper Eminem, whose Encore finishes #2.

Mercury Nashville’s Shania Twain (#3), GOOD/Columbia/Sony Urban’s John Legend (#4) and TVT crunkmeisters Lil’ Jon and the Eastside Boyz (#5) round out the Top Five.

RCA/RMG’s Kelly Clarkson (#6), WB’s Jay-Z/Linkin Park (#7), LaFace/ZLG’s Usher (#8), Capitol’s Now 17 (#9) and Def Jam/IDJ’s Ludacris (#10) make the Top 10 virtually identical to last week’s, with Now 17 (#11-9) the lone exception.

Capitol’s Coach Carter soundtrack, featuring new songs by Twista f/Faith Evans, Red Café, Fabolous, Chingy, The Game/Lil Scrappy, Ciara, Kanye West, Van Hunt, Mack 10/Da Hood and St. Lunatics, among others, is the week’s top debut, at #26. Interscope’s Keane also debuts at #48.

The week’s top gainer is DreamWorks Nashville’s Toby Keith, which goes #20-12, with an 11% rise.

Next week, it’s all about G Unit/Aftermath/Interscope hip-hop star The Game, whose Documentary is on pace to sell 400k in its first seven days, based on early reports from retailers nationwide. Now, depending whether the frigid cold in the midwest and east coast keeps buyers out of stores, we’ll see if it can reach 500k.
