SPANK IT!

MTV’s “Spankin’ New Music Week”
Aims to Slap You Silly
MTV has announced plans for its fourth annual “Spankin’ New Music Week,” set to take place Nov. 8 through Nov. 14 on MTV, MTV2 and MTV.com. Festivities already set include a week of special-edition TRL shows focusing on new music and featuring live performances by Desitny’s Child, Simple Plan, Chingy, Lil’ Jon and the East Side Boyz, Fabolous and Gwen Stefani.

Other MTV specials planned include Diary: Omarion (Nov. 8), which follows former B2K member Omarion as he completes his first solo album and gets ready to tour; Discover and Download (Nov. 10), bringing the MTV2 show to MTV for a special half hour hosted by New Found Glory's Chad Gilbert and featuring new-artist performances and exclusive download offers; MTV Ultimate Mash-ups: Jay-Z vs. Linkin Park (Nov. 10), the pilot for the new MTV series, which challenges pairs of star artists to put their songs together in front of a live audience; Christina Aguilera Concert Special (Nov. 11), which will include footage of the singer’s life on the road as well as performances filmed at London’s Wembley Arena; and The Shady National Convention (Nov. 13), an Eminem political convention spoof “anchored” by Carson Daly, featuring a motorcade entrance, celebrity speakers, correspondent reports and, of course, words from the “candidate” (Eminem).

Also as part of the week-long celebration, MTV hip-hop countdown show Direct Effect will premiere videos and host appearances by Ja Rule, New Edition, Jadakiss, Fabolous, Lloyd Banks, Nas and Nore.

Meanwhile, sister channel MTV2 plans to devote the entire month of November to “Spankin' New Music,” airing a series of “Spankin new DVD” specials on artists including Evanescence, New Found Glory, Yellowcard, Hoobastank, Simple Plan, Chingy, White Stripes, and Nirvana, among others. The channel will also present "Making The Video" specials on Akon, New Found Glory and Lil’ Jon, as well as a 30-minute concert special The Used Live Show and new documentary U2 Makes an Album. New episodes of Discover & Download will also air on Nov. 8 and Nov. 11.

Online, MTV.com will bring fans The Leak starting on Nov. 8. The exclusive area will host first-listen opportunities for new albums from Lil' Jon, Chingy and Destiny's Child. MTV.com will also feature video premieres from Maroon 5, Akon and more.
