With a sweet new purple logo (see left) and a newfound cohesiveness with parent Yahoo!’s powerful identity, the new music division's name is...
Yahoo! Music.
In a move that makes almost too much intuitive sense, Yahoo! has aligned its music property under its global brand identity, which will, according to the company allow Yahoo! Music to “leverage the power and esteem of Yahoo!,” which is a good thing, since Yahoo! is the top global Internet brand with the most traffic of anyone on Earth’s Internet or anywhere else in this universe or the next. At least that’s what they tell us. And with $3 billion in ad revenue, they can tell us whatever they want.
Effective immediately, Yahoo! Music will unify all its music products and services under its new, single brand identity. Internationally, the new branding will be rolled out over the coming months to properties that currently have LAUNCH sites, including Europe, Australia, and Yahoo! en Espanol.
"Yahoo! is committed to being at the forefront of digital music and providing consumers with a compelling and comprehensive music experience," said Yahoo! Music VP/GM Dave Goldberg. "The Yahoo! Music brand will allow for deeper integration across the Yahoo! network as we continue to develop new initiatives to expand our music services for consumers around the world."
Yahoo! acquired LAUNCH in 2001, building it into the top online music destination. The new Yahoo! Music continues to feature music and videos from a wide array of artists, as well as interviews and other information and currently streams over 300 million music videos per month, according to the company.OF PONIES, PRINCESSES AND UNICORNS: CHAPPELL'S SNL TRIUMPH AND BEYOND
