ONE-DAY SALES: ROD A HARD ACT TO FOLLOW

Stewart’s Third Songbook Installment Another Winner, Followed by Jimmy Eat World, Brooks & Dunn, Mellencamp
If you’ve come to this story looking for “Rod” jokes, we’ve already worn them all out again (see headline).

Yes, we’re talking about Rod Stewart, who returns this week with his third collection of standards, Stardust...The Great American Songbook Volume III (J/RMG). According to early reports from national accounts, Rod is on track to blow away the rest of the field with a likely first-week sales total of over 250k.

Looks like the American public still can’t get enough Rod.

And while Rod’s high number should be hard to beat, and will likely land him an easy #1 on next week’s album chart, other albums hitting the street yesterday are doing well in their own right.

At this point, Jimmy Eat World’s Futures (DreamWorks/Interscope) looks like the second-highest new release on next week’s chart, with one-day sales suggesting a first-week total of around 100k. That should be good for a Top 5 debut.

And following Jimmy, both Brooks & Dunn’s The Greatest Hits Collection II (Arista Nashville/RLG) and John Mellencamp’s Words & Music (UTV/UME) look like they’re headed for 70k-80k first weeks, which should land them both solidly in the Top 10.

As always, please be on the lookout for updates to these numbers in this space as the situation changes, as it always seems to. Thank you.
