OOPS! YOU DID IT AGAIN
Ivana Lays Out Her Shopping Strategy for Recalcitrant Christmas Shoppers
Yes, ‘tis the day before Christmas and Hanukkah, which means you’ve awakened in a panic, realizing you forgot to buy a gift for (insert important person in your life here). You would rather excise that person from your life (sorry, Mom) than enter a mall or shopping center today. For those of you in Los Angeles, here are some last-minute solutions that will assure your loved ones how deeply you care:

For Mom:

Table Art Inc. @ 7977 Melrose Avenue has an even better selection of tableware and accessories than Barneys. It is impossible to leave this store without finding the perfect gift.

For Sister/Best Friend:

Across the street from Table Art is Fitzsu @ 7970 Melrose Avenue. This is the only store in Los Angeles that carries the Table Stories collection by Tord Bootje. I rarely get excited about anything involving the kitchen, but the etched glassware and triple-glazed ceramic dishes will appeal to even the biggest design snob. And the prices, while not quite Isaac-Mizrahi-for-Target affordable, won’t make you weep.

For Brother/Best Friend:

Down the block from Fitzsu is the new Adidas Store @ 8009 Melrose Avenue. This has the best of Adidas old-school designs, as well as plenty of limited edition Adidas jackets and gym shoes.

For Dad or Boyfriend:

Since Ted Volk first told me about Moonlight Graham (now located @ 7669 Melrose Avenue), shopping for my boss has been foolproof: Twice per year (birthday and Xmas) I buy everything related to the N.Y. Yankees. The store sells new merchandise, mostly sportswear, featuring vintage MLB and NBA teams and logos. For future reference, they also sell online: www.moonlightgraham.com.

For Girlfriend/Best Friend:

Here’s what I hope to find under the menorah this year—

Tom Binns Jewelry, only available @ Maxfield 8825 Melrose Avenue

Anything cashmere from Diane Merrick 8588 Melrose Avenue

Diamond jewelry from May Po Jewelry & Gems 650 S. Hill Street suite B11 (I bought my sister a nearly two carat diamond pendant for under $400—this dealer guarantees the quality of their stones)

A Sirius Satellite portable radio and subscription. Where Howard Stern goes, I follow.

For College Friends:

Remind them of the time they used to be cool with this box set: Children of Nuggets: Original ARtyfacts from the Second Psychedelic Era - 1976-1996

For Everybody Else:

Bruce SpringsteenBorn to Run: 30th Anniversary three-disc set

Patti SmithHorses 30th Anniversary

If you can buy some time until New Year’s for that special gift, you will NEVER go wrong by sending them the world’s BEST ice cream, hand-packed in Cincinnati. Go to www.graeters.com and start shopping! GOOD LUCK and Happy New Year!
