CHART PREVIEW: LL COOL J, JILL SCOTT DEBUT AS McGRAW, KELLY HOLD TOP TWO
As the sales reports continue to be received, chopped up and ground into delicious data morsels for your consumption, it still appears that LL Cool J and Jill Scott will have the top debuts on this week’s chart, which will be final this afternoon (since it’s Tuesday, in case you forgot).
At this point, it looks like LL’s DEFinition (Def Jam/IDJ) will come in at around 175k for the week, while Scott’s Beautifully Human: Words & Sounds 2 (Epic) will have logged 165k-170k before the counting’s done.
That should put the pair somewhere in or near the Top Five. The first two slots, however, still belong to Tim McGraw, whose Live Like You Were Dying (Curb) is expected to dominate this chart with another 300k-350k sold and R. Kelly, whose Happy People/U Saved Me (Jive) looks like it had a 200k week. Young Buck’s Straight Outta Ca$hville (Interscope) and Mase’s Welcome Back (Bad Boy/Fo Reel/Universal) are also still factors after their second weeks.
Ray Charles’ Genius Loves Company (Concord), meanwhile, looks like it will come on the chart with upwards of 135-145k sold over the past week. And keeping company with the fallen soul legend this week are everybody’s favorite Detroit clowns, Insane Clown Posse, whose two versions of Hell’s Pit (Psycopathic), each with a different DVD value-add, will combine for a first week of about 75k.
Hitting the street today is country star Alan Jackson’s latest, What I Do (RLG). The early betting on that album puts it at around 400k for the week, though we’ll have a better idea tomorrow, after a few thousand Stetson-wearing, belt-buckle sportin,’ boot-scootin’ folks have actually plunked down their hard-earned pay for it.
