CHART PREVIEW:
THE SELLIN’ O’ THE GREEN

Green Day’s American Idiot to Top Chart, Besting Two Nellys, Keith Urban, Tim McGraw, Chevelle
Looks like Green Day's having a green week.

More than 10 years after their breakthrough, Dookie, the Northern California punk-pop trio is poised to capture the top slot on this week’s album chart with their politically charged concept album, American Idiot (Reprise).

Indeed, as our staff of dedicated retail engineers continue to tally sales reports from around the nation, Idiot’s supremacy appears to be anything but dumb luck: At this point, it should hit the chart with about 260k-270k sold for the week, comfortably ahead of Nelly’s Suit (Fo Reel/Universal), which should come in at #2 with after moving another 200k or so.

Nelly should also take #3, with Sweat selling about 175k for the week, followed closely by the week’s second-highest chart debut, newcomer Keith Urban, whose Be Here (Capitol Nashville) looks like it will have sold around 160k-170k once the couting’s done, which should be good for #4.

Rounding out the Top Five could be another chart newcomer, Epic’s Chevelle, whose This Type of Thinking Could Do Us In is on track to log 95k-100k sold for the week. But Chevelle faces a challenge from Tim McGraw, whose Live Like You Were Dying (Curb) is expected to continue its chart roll this week with another 95k-100k under its big ol’ country belt.

Among new albums hitting the street tomorrow (9/28) are: Hilary Duff’s Hilary Duff (Hollywood), expected to sell somewhere around 200k-225k in its first week; Rascal FlattsFeels Like Today (Lyric Street/Hollywood), expected to move anywhere from 150k to 200k; Ciara’s Goodies (Zomba), looking to guessers like a 100k first week, Marilyn Manson’s Lest We Forget greatest-hits package (Interscope), likely to hit 90k-100k; Joss Stone’s Mind, Body & Soul (S-Curve/EMC), expected to do around 75k-100k; The Used’s In Love & Death (Warner Bros.), which could log somewhere between 80k and 100k; Shawnna’s Worth Tha Weight (Island Def Jam), which will probably see a first week of 80k-90k; and Interpol’s Antics (Matador), expected to sell around 75k.
