"It is extremely appropriate that this year’s show features not only artists and honorees that represent the diverse genres of music that affect and inspire young people, but also the global face of music today."

ROBBIE WILLIAMS, PUBLIC ENEMY, VANESSA CARLTON, THE FLAMING LIPS READY TO ROCK THE VOTE

Organization’s 10th Annual Bash, This Year at Roseland Ballroom, Will Honor Peter Gabriel, Alanis Morissette, Chuck D on Feb. 22
Robbie Williams, Public Enemy, Vanessa Carlton and The Flaming Lips will perform live at NYC’s Roseland Ballroom for Rock the Vote and MTV’s 10th annual bash in memory of Patrick Lippert on Saturday night, Feb. 22, the evening before the Grammys at Madison Square Garden.

The evening’s honorees are Peter Gabriel and Alanis Morissette, who will receive Rock the Vote Patrick Lippert Awards, and Public Enemy’s Chuck D, who will be presented with the 2003 Rock the Vote Founders Award.

This year’s Awards are being sponsored by Old Spice, L’Oreal, T-Mobile and 7 UP.

Executive Director Jehmu Greene says the quality of individuals involved make the organization’s 10th anniversary a special event. "It is extremely appropriate that this year’s show features not only artists and honorees that represent the diverse genres of music that affect and inspire young people, but also the global face of music today. And the free Heinekens won’t hurt."

Rock the Vote was founded by members of the recording industry as a non-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to protecting freedom of expression and empowering young people to change their world. The Patrick Lippert Award commemorates Rock the Vote’s first Executive Director, who died of complications from AIDS in July 1993.

Previous Rock the Vote honorees include Dave Matthews, Destiny’s Child, Neil Young, Wyclef Jean, Sting, Bono, R.E.M., Pearl Jam, Queen Latifah, Hootie & the Blowfish, Sheryl Crow, L.L. Cool J., Steve Young, Beastie Boys and Salt-n-Pepa.
