MARCIANO LEAVES HOB

Veteran Concert Promotion Executive
Steps Down
Jay Marciano has stepped down as President of House of Blues Concerts, as House of Blues continues to integrate its club and concert businesses.

With this reorganization, the concert team will be led by Executive VPs of Concerts Alex Hodges and Adam Friedman, along with Sr. VP of Concerts John Van Zeebroeck. All will report directly to HOB President/CEO Greg Trojan. It is understood that Hodges will take over the majority of Marciano’s responsibilities in HOB’s concert promotion business.

"I love the live music business and I’m not going to stay on the sidelines for long," Marciano told Hitsdailydouble.com. "I will return to the industry soon."

Insiders point to the ongoing tension between Marciano and Trojan as one of the reasons for Marciano’s departure. "I have enjoyed over 18 great years with the company, and I am very proud of our accomplishments, but I feel the time is right for me to pursue other opportunities," said Marciano. "I wish my friends at House of Blues continued success."

Trojan added: "Jay has been an integral part of taking a small concert business in the 1980s and building it into one of today's industry leaders. We wish him the very best as he pursues the next chapter in his music career."

Marciano has been in the concert game for over 25 years. He began his career in entertainment in Colorado in 1975 and his long affiliation with concerts in 1984 as Director of Entertainment for Universal Amphitheatre. In 1988, Marciano was promoted to VP, and, in 1990, he was promoted to Sr. VP and dispatched to Toronto, where he was responsible for the development of Universal's Canadian concert businesses in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. In 1994, Marciano was promoted to President of Universal Concerts. Now calling itself House of Blues Concerts, the company has become one of North America's top grossing promoters.

Hodges has been in the concert business for over 30 years. He began his career with Universal Concerts in 1994, where he assumed the booking of the Universal Amphitheatre, as well as the training and supervision of talent buyers and the approval of offers and deals for talent at various House of Blues Concerts venues around the United States. Hodges had been Senior VP/Head of Music at ICM and VP for promoter Nederlander.

Friedman, with MCA Concerts since 1992, focuses on the management, operation, strategic/financial planning and development of the Company. Friedman started as Director Business and Legal Affairs for the company and was responsible for negotiating and structuring talent, sponsorship, vendor, union, construction, development and other transactions.

Van Zeebroeck manages Operations, Development and Corporate Partnerships for House of Blues Concerts. On a day-to-day basis, Van Zeebroeck is responsible for managing the operations of the Company's properties. This includes oversight of the VPs and GMs in the field, the operating and capital-expenditure budgets, the growth of ancillary income sources, the development of corporate partnerships and the negotiation of vendor, concession, and union contracts.
