MUSICLAND ACQUIRES RETAIL VETS YARBROUGH, GARRETT

Ex-SMD Chairman, Wheremusic Exec Join CEO Weisman at "New Look" Retail Chain
Retail heavyweights Danny Yarbrough and Lew Garrett have joined CEO Eric Weisman’s new team at Musicland.

Former Sony Music Distribution Chairman Yarbrough has been named Vice Chairman of Musicland Group, while Garrett, who served most recently as EVP/GM at Wherehouse Music, will be President of Musicland Purchasing Corp. Both jobs report directly to newly appointed CEO Weisman, who came over from Alliance Entertainment Corp. to join the retail giant in August.

Yarbrough has been brought on to work directly with Weisman "to further develop the company’s strategic initiatives, including the evolution of e-commerce, the digital business and taking lunch orders on his Blackberry." Yarbrough’s tenure in the music business spans almost 40 years, the last 10 as SMD topper. Yarbrough is also going to be "focusing on new and proprietary product development, vendor relations, long-term supply chain management solutions and handling the refunds on all future Siegfried and Roy shows."

In his new position, Garrett will be responsible for merchandising, purchasing, inventory management, distribution center operations and playing Santa at the annual company Christmas party. Garrett has been in the music retail business for well over 30 years, including some 28 years at Camelot as Sr. VP of Buying and Merchandising. Musicland Sr. VP/GMM Peter Busch will report to Garrett.

Commented Weisman: "Lew and Danny are two accomplished executives with vast industry experience who will strengthen the overall foundation of the company’s management team and further Musicland’s ability to successfully build a profitable business capable of meeting the evolving needs of today’s entertainment retailing marketplace. And I hope they bring warm clothes, because it's already freezing up here."

Added Garrett: "For more than 30 years, I have been involved in entertainment retailing, and as the song says, ‘The times they are a changin’.’ I look forward to working with the Musicland management team to build a successful business and to cover more Dylan tunes in the future."

Said Yarbrough: "I look forward to working with Eric and the management team to develop solutions and inject innovation into our business to solve the challenges our industry is facing today, including piracy and digital downloading. Now who can show me how to print out my email?"
