Laguna Beach-based SLAM, whose partners also include Tony Hawk Inc. COO Pat Hawk and entertainment exec Terry Hardy, has aligned with world-renowned skateboarder Tony Hawk himself and six-time world surfing champion Kelly Slater.
"My dad worked for Kodak for 32 years and was really upset watching their decline. He said they missed the boat because they thought they were just in the film business when they were really in the imaging business," Guerinot tells HITS. "I didn't want that to happen to me. I'm not just in the music business. I'm in the selling things to kids business."
In addition to bringing in the two most popular figures in action sports, SLAM has also signed management deals with CKY founder and Jackass star Bam Margera; BMX champion Kevin Robinson; snowboarding champion Shaun White; freestyle motorcross pioneer Mike Cinqmars; surf champion Mike "Snips" Parsons; snowboarding guru Tina Basich; BMX star Mike "Rooftop" Escamilla and the Malloy’s (surfing brothers Chris, Keith and Dan).
"SLAM management is an idea that is long overdue: proper management for action-sports athletes," Tony Hawk said. "The staff is organized, efficient and fair. We, as athletes, need this kind of representation so that we can concentrate on what we do best."
Slater added, "I couldn’t be more stoked to be working with SLAM. I get more excited everyday. Together, we are making my dreams a reality."
In addition to athlete management, SLAM includes an event management arm, a marketing services division and a film production and distribution division.
The event side is currently producing the successful Boom Boom HuckJam tour, now appearing in arenas throughout the U.S. The marketing services company has coordinated deals with Activision, Sony Playstation, Squeeze-N Go and Hershey’s.
Meanwhile, SLAMFILMS has completed distribution deals with surf video pioneer Taylor Steele, Margera’s CKY film library and Hawk’s The Making of Boom Boom HuckJam DVD.
Rebel Waltz clients include Beck, No Doubt, the Offspring and Social Distortion.
Hawk has been COO of Tony Hawk Inc. and personal manager to Tony Hawk since 1996. She has been responsible for guiding all areas of Tony’s career including his Pro Skater game series with Activision, Birdhouse skateboards, the Tony Hawk clothing and apparel stores through Quicksilver as well as his Trick Tips video/DVD series through Best Buy.
Hardy has had 10 plus years of entertainment industry experience in which he has held executive positions in talent management, marketing and business and corporate development.
