AOL SAYS IT’S MILLER TIME

AOLTW Taps Former USA Interactive President/CEO for Online Post
Jonathan F. Miller, the former President/CEO of the Barry Diller-led USA Interactive's USA Information and Services, has been named Chairman/CEO of America Online by AOL Time Warner CEO Richard Parsons.

The 45-year-old exec will be responsible for all of AOL’s businesses, including the flagship service. He’ll report to AOLTW Media & Communications Group Chairman Don Logan.

"Jon Miller is absolutely the right person to lead AOL into its next stage of growth. Jon’s success in building consumer-driven businesses online and offline has given him the right blend of expertise and experience to revitalize AOL," Parsons said. "He is, moreover, a person of unquestioned integrity and character, and a great team player to boot. I look forward to working closely with Jon and Don to create new value at AOL for our shareholders, employees, partners and customers. Or else we’ll all be back peddling schmatas on Fulton St."

AOLTW Chairman Steve Case added: "Jon’s hiring represents an important step forward for AOL and the entire company. The discussions I’ve had with Jon give me great confidence that he will put the focus squarely back on our members and ensure we strike the right balance between driving near-term growth and investing for the future. I look forward to working with Jon as he builds on AOL’s strong position and takes AOL to new heights. Hey, does anyone have Pittman’s home number?"

Added Logan: "Jon’s proven abilities to manage creative organizations and work effectively as part of a team help make him the best choice for this challenging job. I am confident that Jon will make AOL once again a powerful growth engine and an even more valuable partner both inside and outside the company. I have assured Jon and AOL’s people that they will have all of the resources and support necessary to succeed, assuming anyone there has change of a $20."

Miller’s management experience includes interactive services, media, entertainment and technology as President/CEO of USAIS (which he left in June), as well as Managing Director of Nickelodeon International, VP/C-GM of NBA Entertainment and Director Instructional Programming at Boston’s WBGH-TV. This past year, Miller worked with Boston-based private equity firm General Catalyst Partners to create online transactional businesses. The company had a longstanding relationship with AOL.

Said Miller: "What AOL and its people have built is truly extraordinary and unparalleled. This is a terrific opportunity to build on its industry leadership to better serve both members and partners. My focus will be on making the AOL service even more useful in the everyday lives of its members. Working with Steve, Dick and Don, along with our colleagues through the company, all of us at AOL will have a truly exciting and successful future. By the way, can we still get free tickets to Six Flags?"
